My husband and I took our 5 year old to see Hairy Maclary at Alnwick Playhouse. It was a great show and all the kids (and some adults) were shouting and singing along. It was the best kids show we've been to see. The total cost for all three of us was £15 and when I compare this to the numerous shows we have seen in bigger theatres (for at least 3 times the money), there is no comparison. We are still singing !!!!!!.

It's a great show, those who want to make a whole day of it can also book into the Kids Discovery Tour, where families are taken on a kid-friendly journey through the Opera House to learn about the history and creation of the iconic performing arts centre.

Having seen this production at a relatively large theatre I definitely think it would work best at small "intimate type" venues where the children can be quite close to the action. Suggestions for 2012 are Bonington Theatre at Arnold near Nottingham and Mansfield Palace? Having said that my daughter who's a huge Hairy Maclary fan still sat enthraled for most of the show. Well done on producing a successful show.

Desperating looking for listing of dates and places in UK for Hairy Maclary in 2012. Can only find Aldershot, Greenwich and Berwick on Tweed. Surely there are other places?

I took a 3 year old, 5 year old and two 6 year olds to see this in August at the Riverside Studios and they have not stopped singing the songs since. They absolutely loved every moment of it, the show was excellent at getting everyone involved. I was worried that the 6 year olds may have been a little old, but having grown up with the books there was no need! Really well done and a lovely show!
