‘Out of the gate and off for a walk, went Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy.’
Anyone with young children will recognise these immortal words instantly as the opening lines of the book ‘Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy’ by Lynley Dodd. Following a Sell-Out run at the Fringe 2010, Hairy Maclary and his friends are springing off the page once again this Summer.
Featuring many of the characters from the books like Hercules Morse, as big as a Horse – Bottomley Potts, covered in spots – Schnitzel von Krumm, with the very low tum and Scarface Claw – the toughest tomcat in town. With music, singing and several of your favourite Hairy Maclary stories, this show is a must for the whole family.
**** THE LIST: – ‘This is old-school children’s theatre in all the right ways.’
MUMS.NET:- “…Hairy Maclary was fab, my nearly 3 year old practically levitated in excitement…”
THE HERALD: - ‘… so numerous and vociferous was the audience that sometimes the performers were drowned out…they were, however, able to keep the kids in stitches, no matter the volume…’
PRIMARY TIMES: - …a vibrant, fun filled show that cleverly brings Lynley Dodd’s much-loved children’s books to life.’

Hi, Just went to the Hairy show in Oban and literally all the parents and kids I know that went loved the show. We wondered if there is any way to get hold of the CD of the songs as they would make great presents.
Cheers
Lyndsay
PS My six year old now nows almost all the words!

We all loved the show, thank you for such a fun morning. It was my 2 and 7 year olds first Fringe experience. If you ever fancy coming up near here (Inverbervie near Stonehaven/Montrose) we’ll be there
We hear the CD on replay all the way home. Fantastic interactive fun for all, thank you again.

Hi, I went to see Hairy Maclary show at Greenock Arts Guild on 4th Sept. I purchased a CD, which they didn’t have available on the day, and wrote my address for it to be posted to me. I have still not received anything yet. Can you please email me for my details so it can be sent out? thanks Jackie

Will this show be repeated next year? My grand-daughter (nearly 3) can recite the book by heart and loves all dogs (in the book and real live ones).

Hello,
I am absoluty gutted I missed your Kenton Theatre Henley show. It was the date of my daughters birthday as well.
Are you coming back to the Henley on Thames Kenton Theatre at all, or anything in that vicinity? Such as Windsor Theatre Royal, or Norden Farm in Maidenhead?
Many Thanks
Are there still cd’s to order.

I took a 3 year old, 5 year old and two 6 year olds to see this in August at the Riverside Studios and they have not stopped singing the songs since. They absolutely loved every moment of it, the show was excellent at getting everyone involved. I was worried that the 6 year olds may have been a little old, but having grown up with the books there was no need! Really well done and a lovely show!

Having seen this production at a relatively large theatre I definitely think it would work best at small “intimate type” venues where the children can be quite close to the action. Suggestions for 2012 are Bonington Theatre at Arnold near Nottingham and Mansfield Palace? Having said that my daughter who’s a huge Hairy Maclary fan still sat enthraled for most of the show. Well done on producing a successful show.

My husband and I took our 5 year old to see Hairy Maclary at Alnwick Playhouse. It was a great show and all the kids (and some adults) were shouting and singing along. It was the best kids show we’ve been to see. The total cost for all three of us was £15 and when I compare this to the numerous shows we have seen in bigger theatres (for at least 3 times the money), there is no comparison. We are still singing !!!!!!.
