Wednesday Night

Did a run. We got thru most of it. It felt quite long. Words to describe it include Stumbly, Useful, Potential, Mixed. It was pretty long and slow and involved a lot of running from door to door. Some scenes were good. Got some notes, the rest tomorrow. People were very tired.

How did I feel? Had fun with Quince, but still feeling my way. Gotta exploit his neurosis, his dogged determination to stage his play, his baby, his vision. Instead of inspiring his actors, its instructing and commanding them. Demetrius was interesting. Felt him closer than ever before. But not sure about the first 2 scenes. Getting close to his heart and what he wants. But running out of time.

It feels like we have a long way to go. And we've only got to Friday arvo before we do another run. Need to put in the work. Its scary. But how do you eat an elephant? A piece at a time. Bite sized chunks, and soon we'll have finished the play to our satisfaction.

Oh and we had costumes fitted. They surprised me. I hate costume fittings. (A whole other subject.) This one was good. I like my clothes. They suit the play, the character, the setting (seems simple and straightforward but very seldom does this happen). A good afternoon.

Gonna bash the script for a while til things make more sense. People are doing good work and scenes have great structure to em – we just need to build and extemporise on it. Characters are emerging all the time and are a joy to watch. Director's note was to Listen (always can actors listen more and respond more naturally) and to go back to the Words – be certain what we are saying, what we want and why, and use their creativity.

Gonna find something to eat and then do work. Goodnight.
